Stuttering, also known as disfluency, is a speech disorder characterized by repetitions, blocks, or prolongations when speaking. Not everyone who stutters experiences it the same way: some have mild interruptions, while others show visible effort when trying to start or maintain a conversation. These symptoms can cause anxiety, frustration, and significantly impact social, academic, or professional life.

Although stuttering often begins in childhood, it can persist into adulthood if not addressed early. People who stutter frequently develop strategies to avoid certain words or situations, which can reinforce the problem and limit communication.

Speech therapy for stuttering does not focus solely on fluency. In our consultations, we assess the type of disfluencies, when they occur, how the person feels while speaking, and the impact of stuttering on daily life. From there, we create an individualized plan tailored to each case.

We work on techniques for speech control, rhythm, breathing, and relaxation, as well as communication skills and emotional management. Creating a safe space where the person can speak without fear of mistakes or judgment is essential.

The goal is not to eliminate all disfluencies completely but to achieve freer, more confident, and functional communication. With professional support and consistent practice, it is often possible to significantly reduce stuttering and improve quality of life.
